My passion for teaching

Preparing Your Performance

Performing is one of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of this profession. It brings immense joy but demands unwavering effort and commitment. I understand how difficult it can be, and I am fully dedicated to helping my students see their potential, face their blocks, set their goals, and realize their dreams.

Teaching is a journey we take together—it's a partnership. We are walking the same path, and our success depends on making the most of it. My ultimate goal is to guide my students towards happiness and fulfillment, understanding that trust and confidence takes time to build.

No matter what a student is seeking, I am here to listen, to guide, and to offer my full support in their musical and personal growth.

Speaking Is Performing

For many of my students, speaking a foreign language is a real joy but a challenge. I understand just how daunting this can be, and I deeply respect the courage it takes to step out of their comfort zones. Building their knowledge of the French language and pronunciation is not just about learning rules—it's about building confidence. And that, above all, is my goal for them.

For younger students, I often explain that understanding the structure—the "recipe" for building verbs and sentences—gives them the freedom to express themselves. When they know the rules, they are free to create any sentence, in any tense, and truly communicate their thoughts. Speaking is the key to expressing ourselves, a powerful tool for freedom in our world. It is also the best way to meet, share and connect to others.

My wish for every student is to find confidence and freedom through language.

Singing in French is a Performance

It makes perfect sense—and brings me great joy—to combine singing and French by coaching singers through the French repertoire. As a professional singer myself, I know just how challenging it is to sound truly “native” in another language.

You can coach an entire chorus to sound “French,” but in private lessons, you can go even further—sometimes to the point where a student sounds convincingly like a native speaker (as mentioned in the testimonials below).

Working on pronunciation is really about unlocking the musicality of a language. It also means working with the student’s unique skills. Thanks to my background, I can assess whether the tongue is "mature"—agile and mobile—and guide each person to discover new movements and connections within their own body. Depending on the student's origin, I’m passionate about exploring how to shape the perfect vowels, achieve beautiful inflection, and master clear, expressive articulation—always in respect with their own vocal technique.

Once this “mechanical” work is in place, the magic begins: the meeting of two musical worlds—language and score. With my love for French literature and poetry, I help students navigate the deeper meaning behind the text, revealing its nuances, metaphors, and emotional colors.

Together, we build interpretations that are not only musically accurate but also deeply expressive and true to the spirit of the French repertoire.

About me

A little more about me…

I was born in Avignon, France, and my artistic journey began with a strong foundation in both literature and music. I got a degree in Literature at the University of Provence and pursued my musical education at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire, where my vocal prowess quickly garnered attention.

My early career saw led to debuts in several notable operatic roles, including Flora in La Traviata, Mercedes in Carmen, Fenena in Nabucco, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Shepherd in Tosca and Taven in Mireille. These performances established me as a versatile and dynamic artist, capable of bringing depth and emotion to my performances.

My career took a significant leap forward with a series of engagements at prestigious venues. The Marseille Opera invited me to perform as Suzanne in Louise and as "Alto 1" in Verlaine Paul, a contemporary opera by Georges Boeuf. I also performed in an Offenbach concert. My repertoire expanded to include operetta roles, such as Mademoiselle Lange in La Fille de Madame Angot and Hélène in La Belle Hélène, while I also participated in numerous other productions, including Les Saltimbanques, Sire de Vergy, and Princess Trebisonde.

I have also relished performing sacred music. I was a soloist in Duruflé’s Requiem at the Aix-en-Provence Cathedral and in Paris, as well as in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Aube Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gilles Millière. Additionally, I collaborated with organist Etienne Pierron for a series of performances spanning three years.

My stage presence and vocal skill has earned me invitations to sing at the Châtelet Theatre for a multitude of different productions. Notable roles include Sister Sofia in The Sound of Music (2009 and 2011), Lulu de Colmar in Verfügbar aux Enfers, performed at the Ravensbrück concentration camps and broadcast by Arte, France5, and FranceÔ in 2010, and the solo woman in Magdalena by Villa-Lobos (2010). I also performed as Mao's second secretary in John Adams’ Nixon in China in 2012.

In June 2014, I received critical acclaim for my portrayal of the Secretary in The Consul by G. C. Menotti at the Théâtre d'Herblay. The production was revived later that year at the Théâtre de l'Athénée Louis Jouvet, where I was praised for my engaging performanc

My operatic career continued to flourish with my role as Ida in Die Fledermaus at the Opéra de Reims and Opéra de Tours, where I performed alongside Mireille Delunsch, and as Suor Zelatrice in Suor Angelica under the baton of Jean-Yves Ossonce. A particular career highlight was Dialogues des Carmélites at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in both 2013 and 2018, joining Patricia Petitbon under the musical direction of Jeremy Rhorer and stage direction by Olivier Py.

My singing then took my across the Channel to the UK with an invitation to the Grange Park Opera Festival, where I performed as the cover of Elisabetta Fiorillo in the role of Ulrica in Ballo in Maschera in 2018, and as Feklusa in Katja Kabanova in 2024.

As you can see, I have been fortunate enough to perform in numerous esteemed venues, including the Théâtre de l'Odéon, Marseille Opera, Capitole, Toulon Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra National de Paris, Opéra National de Lyon, Opéra de Limoges, Opéra de Saint-Étienne, and the Spoleto Festival, as well as performing in Cuneo, Verona, Milan, and the Grange Park Opera Festival.

In addition to my successful performance career, I am deeply committed to teaching. I adore teaching singing to a wide range of students. In 2023 I joined the fantastic team at King’s School Canterbury, where I teach French to Year 9 classes and prepare students for French GCSE, A-level, and DELF B1/B2 exams in Senior School. I also have a set of year 10 French beginners in the King's International College. I runs a Phonetics/Pronunciation club and a Dictation Clinic, supporting students in mastering the nuances of the French language. Lastly I also organized conferences on French culture for Le Cercle Français at the school. This gave me the opportunity to share my passion for the language and its rich heritage.

Multiverse

Singing teacher

From early on, I felt a deep desire to share my love for music with others. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of working with senior groups—leading singing lessons, choirs, and concerts—as well as introducing young children to the magic of music and the voice. Teaching has always been a central part of my journey, and for the past 25 years, I’ve given private lessons to students of all ages and levels. I’ve come to believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding—and powerful—ways to learn, as every student brings a new perspective that deepens my own understanding and passion for the voice.

French tutor

I originally planned to become a French teacher—it was my first career choice before I ever signed a singing contract. I hold a degree in French literature, which has always fueled my love for language, meaning, and expression. So when I moved to the UK, it felt completely natural to return to my first love: the French language.

I'm proud to now be a French teacher at one of the most prestigious schools in the UK, where I have the joy of sharing my passion for words and communication with students—whether they are beginners, GCSE learners, A-Level candidates, or preparing for the DELF B1/B2 exams.

Thanks to my career in music, I also find great joy and fulfillment in coaching singers in the French repertoire. My deep love for literature and poetry draws me especially to French mélodies, where phrasing and the musicality of the language are essential for truly expressive interpretation. My cultural background and experience allow me to explore and reveal the rich connections between language and music—unlocking the secrets of both worlds.

Testimonials

As a French coach:

“ Béatrice coached me last year for a production of Macbeth (Verdi) in french at the Festival Verdi in Parma. I was doing three small roles in the Opera so I needed to be as prepared as I could,  she brought my french to another level. I loved that she went beyond correct diction and helped me  achieve an almost ‘accent-free’ french. In fact in my first musical rehearsal, the language coach of the production came up to me speaking in french, assuming that I spoke the language perfectly. Well…I do not speak a word of French! ”

Jacobo Occhoa, Baritone

As a singing teacher:

« I have been working with Béatrice Sideris-Dupuy for a little over a year. She has supported me to strengthen my vocal range to discover a sound I never knew I had. Béatrice has grown my confidence and discipline in vocal technique. Her lessons are joyful, creative and practical. She can describe the physical aspects of singing like no one I have ever worked with, helping me understand my body is my instrument and how to get the best from it. She is invested in her students and communicates in a direct and generous way. She creates a space in lessons so I can become the best I can be on the day. I would highly recommend Béatrice to anyone wanting to deepen their musicality in singing.  »

Stephanie Wong, Soprano

« It has been such a joy working with Beatrice over the past few years. I often enter a lesson feeling worried or unsure of how to approach a project or challenge, and I always leave feeling at ease having been given the guidance and tools to tackle the task at hand. Beatrice is clear, specific and provides tangible and practical ways of approaching languages and vocal technique more broadly. A highly impactful, kind, caring, and fun teacher. I highly recommend working with her.  »
